Artist Statement

For several years now I have been making quilts with photos and objects as a result of thoughts with which I am occupied.

Inspiration for these kind of quilts can be found in an exhibition about traditional Dutch textiles: linen cloths on which actual events were visualised and incorporated into songs at the end of the 19th century.
My first 'smartlap' (a traditional cloth) was dedicated to the now- demolished monumental houses at Heerenveen. Since then I have been incorporating photos in my often transparent work.
