Artist Statement

 

Making a quilt I see as directing a piece for theatre. Fabrics are my actors or dancers. They come to an audition. I choose the ones with the most potential for the play. It happens that some have to be replaced later. They come from everywhere and do not have to be handsome. They learn their text, prepare for the part they play, they dress, they put on their make up. As a choreographer I show them to their places. They have to listen to each other, they have to work together. It is their play.
The quilt is telling the story. My part is over, I stay on the sideline.
The quilt tells stories about loneliness, living together, changes, and perishableness: stories about life.

The materials are cotton fabrics, dyed and painted by hand; photo prints and photo transfers on fabric (sometimes plastic, organza etc); texts (own writings and poems)
